1969 Hot Wheels Super-Charger Grand Prix Race Set (part 1)

Mattel’s big set for 1969 is the Super-Charger Grand Prix Race Set.  It gives you 100 lap events on a grand scale.

Track contents include:  44 feet of orange track, 16 joiners, 12 half curves, 2 Two-Way Super-Chargers, 2 automatic lap counters and 8 white trestles.

My strongest childhood memory of Hot Wheels ads is this one:

  1. HELLO I LOVE YOUR SUPERCHARGER SET VIDEOS. To bad I did not know you in 1969 You could have helped me get my Dual Lane Rod Runner to work. I bought a set one a year ago used on Ebay and put 2 rubber bands on each side what a difference it makes. Cars actually make the oval laps.
I had a DRag Chute Stunt set,SUPER charger Speed Test Set and a Sizzlers PACIFIC OVAL back when I was A Kid I WHISH I had Them NOW. MY son is 7 years old watches your Videos and we set up Big Layouts in the Living Room Using VINTAGE SUPERCHAGERS and newly Purchased Hot Wheel Boosters.

I Wish you would Down Load a Video of you HOT WHEELS GRAND PRIX sets USING those
VINTAGE CHAPARELL and MCCLAREN. I thinK That was the Biggest set they Ever made.
I would like to here from you. Thank You VERY Much Your Videos are Fantastic.
MARK D a fellow Hot wheels Collector. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.

    • Hi Mark,

It took me 2 years to get back to you…but a video of a running Super-Charger Grand Prix Race Set is now done. My McLaren won’t quite run through the whole track and I cannot figure out how to keep the wing on the Chaparral when it goes through the automatic lap counter. So, I opted for a 1971 Six Shooter to go up against a 2010 Mustang GT with FTE1 wheels.

I hope you are well and you enjoy the video.

      Cheers,

      John

      • Great Video John. Your super charger grand prix set looks to be brand new. Stickers look Bright and fresh on the lap counters and Superchargers. Was this a Unopened set that you located on Ebay it looks to be brand new. And they Superchargers look to be very powerfull. I wonder if you can set up the 2 alternate layouts for the the Grand Prix set one is a Double 8 single track and the other one that looks like a 4 leaf clover. They would make fantastic videos. PS Vintage cars running are always a special treat. I had a supercharger speed test set with a olive green Lola back in 1972. And a Drag shute stunt set with a red toreador in 1971. Keep the videos coming. Thank You Mark D Date: Mon, 25 Jan 2016 02:20:15 +0000 To: markdangelo@msn.com

  3. Fantastic Video The Track and superchargers look to Be Unused New Old Stock. I am Happy that the Vintage 6 shooter won it proves that the Red-line Hot wheels were the Best. I hope You build the 2 Alternate track layouts from the Instruction sheet and down load a video I would love to see them in action. Especially the one set that looks like a Pretzel or 4 leaf Clover. I remember seeing this set in Times Square Store in December of 1969-1970 seeing the box art work sent chills up my spine when I was 7 years old. I used to call this Set Supercharger city due to the vivid images on the Box.
